This has been an amazing journey and we are so proud of the work that has gone in to this tome.
From Josh: Now that the preregistration page is live, we’re going to start talking about the Deluxe Edition beyond just vague references going forward.
Just to kick things off here, the first question is why we wanted to make this. LH is a scrappy little indie zone and we’re pretty happy with it. There are some things that we’ve tweaked for clarity, but the first chunk of the book is more or less what’s already available.
So what’s the big draw? Well, we needed more pages. Horror can be difficult to run at the table and the original zine is primarily working under the expectation that the reader is already familiar with doing so and the broad culture of play that LH descends from. The system will maintain its ease of use and ability to quickly learn and play, but an additional 3/4 of the book is setup with tips and tools for running horror, even beyond just this system itself. This includes:
Facilitator’s Guide: broken into three sections, Running and Investigation, Writing a Mystery, and Adapting a Mystery. The first is how to best leverage the system, the second is a *thoroughly* detailed breakdown of how to make a scenario, and the third is ways to take scenarios for other systems and run them with LH.
Catalog of the Strange: our take on a bestiary, including monsters, factions, helpful NPCs, and Resonant Artifacts.
The Haunted Pacific Northwest: a setting framework, giving you the basic building blocks to use for your campaigns.
Camp Coldwater: a one-shot starter scenario.
The Appendices: there’s a whole ton of stuff in here, but the biggest draw are the generic locations (maps and basic details of locations for you to take and bring the horror to), expanded optional mechanics (survival horror, tactical combat, funnels, etc), and additional player material (archetypes, Fallout, etc).
We’re excited to launch into this next phase with you all and I promise you won’t want to miss what we have in store (including some special sneak peaks on what we and others are doing in the Liminal Horror space)
