Deluxe Edition Preview #4: The Haunted Pacific Northwest
A dive into a collected setting that provides an example for how to weave the different pieces together into a cohesive framework.
Welcome back to part 4 of our lead up to the Liminal Horror Deluxe Edition newsletter series!
As we gear up for the April 15th launch on Backerkit we will be exploring what is contained within the book!
In this series we’re looking at each Chapter/Section in the book so you can get a good idea of everything we have in store for you.
For this entry we will be diving into Chapter 4: The Haunted PNW (our take on a setting guide). In this chapter we weave all the locations and threads seeded in our official module into a map bringing player across the strange and horrifying Pacific Northwest. From the coasts of Oregon to the sandy deserts, there is something strange going on in every corner of this place.
FOLLOW ON BACKERKIT TO BE NOTIFIED OF OUR APRIL 15TH LAUNCH!
The previous newsletter entries focused on:
Chapter 1: Investigators Guide (the core rules and character creation section of the book)
Chapter 2: Facilitator’s Guide (essays on how to run and create horror at the table)
As always, remember that things are still subject to change as we’re in the editing and layout process. Even so, this should give a good look at what you’re going to get with Liminal Horror Deluxe Edition.
Chapter 4: The Haunted PNW
Home of The Bureau’s attempt at stabilization through their anomalous headquarters The Monolith to the reality fracturing events of The Mall (In Carpenter Oregon).
Our goal with this “setting guide” was to provide tools and tips on how to weave some of the official modules and new content from the deluxe edition together. These frameworks are open enough to bend, break, and change to work with whatever you need in for your table.
This chapter includes:
An overview of the setting
Omens table: that provide strange occurrences to seed for players during travel.
7 different city/areas locations.
The Shifting World and Other Dimension
An expanding the setting section.
Campaign frameworks
We made a nice spot for some adventures to fit into if that gets made a reality!!!
Cities/Areas
In the text we present 7 different cities/areas around the region.
Portland, OR
Bayocean, OR (home of the Moon Maiden)
Carpenter, OR (home of The Mall)
Eastern, OR
Seattle, WA (home of The Bureau)
Coldwater WA (home of The Bloom)
The Spaces Between - small cities, one stoplight towns, and tourist traps that lie between the major population centers.
Each location includes an overview, multiple points of interests, a list of key NPC, and two investigation threads each.
Investigation threads are potential frameworks for adventures that Facilitators can use at their tables, with an overview of what’s going on, clues that the Investigators could encounter, and page references for resources from the book to use (including monsters, factions, points of interest, NPCs, generic locations, any publish adventures connected to the thread). Some of the investigation threads include:
THEY CAME FROM THE UNDEREARTH
THE DEAD OF NIGHT
ASTRAL NECROMANCY
BLOOD OF A DEAD-GOD
RETURN TO THE MALL
THEY LOOK LIKE PEOPLE
HORROR SPRINGS
FLESH AND STEEL
OUTBREAK
THE TOWER
COLDWATER LAKE INCIDENT
A CREEPING TERROR
INITIATION
ONE NIGHT
The Shifting World & Other Dimensions
Dimensions beyond our material plane are often the source/origin of the different horrors and resonant artifacts that Investigators may encounter. We wanted to provide a brief description of any dimensions that are referenced within the Deluxe Edition and that have connections to different monsters, NPCs, Resonant Artifacts, or Rituals. This is not an exhaustive list but gives an idea of the types of places these things could originate from.
Expanding the Setting
Gives advice on how to integrate the official modules and the included scenarios within the book.
Campaign Frameworks
A list of different potential campaigns that Facilitators can run, with examples of how to tie together different adventures and resources into an arc.
Adventures
We designed this space to perfectly slot in 1-3 adventures as stretch goals! We’ll talk about these in the final newsletter but they’re something you won’t want to miss out on!
Stay Tuned
During our next newsletter we’ll look The Appendices, where all the tools, supplements, optional rules, and mechanics live.
