Big news for Liminal Horror
Where we look at some of the big things coming up (like a certain award nomination... cough **the Ennies** cough cough)
A lot has happened since last we spoke. We chose the recipient for the Liminal Horror - Pride 2024 (which we will announce below). We also got nominated for an Ennie Award, and wrapped our backerkit funding for The Parthenogenesis of Hungry Hollow! Now is a good time to be a fan of modern horror ttrpgs.
Liminal Horror & The Weekly Scroll - Pride 2024
I am excited to announce the first annual recipient of our Pride 2024 celebration. We joined together with Hunter & Ryan over at The Weekly Scroll to offer tangible support to LGBTIQA+ members of the Liminal Horror community.
The goal was to offer a form of direct support, so both the LH Dev team and The Weekly Scroll offered $150 each to a community member currently working on an exciting new project.
Drum roll please!!!!
Recipient: Mist-Begotten Country by Evangeline Sorrel
Description: “A British rural folk horror module, inspired by British folklore, the movie 'the borderlands', and the isolating experience of growing up trans in the British countryside.”
What excites you most about this project? “It allows me to write atmospheric text that’s inherently gameable, and focused on play, strengthening skills for future game writing and novel writing - creating horror at a word limit. It will also allow me to practice more on layout, a skill I’m starting to learn. - most importantly the subject matter, and horror itself, allows me to process thoughts and feelings especially relating to being trans and the culture I grew up in, within art.”
Do you have an anticipated release window? “End of this year at the latest, hopefully in time for Halloween.”
Honorable Mention: Shift by THE GRISLY EYE
Description: “Shift is an adventure for Liminal Horror and Liminal High School, in the genre of gig work horror. https://grislyeye.com/products/shift/”
What excites you most about this project? “An interesting new genre, and especially the Eigenhaus, a wholly new setting for Liminal Horror I'm developing as part of this module. Potentially, you could run an entire campaign around the Eigenhaus, and there could be more adventures for it in my future.”
Do you have an anticipated release window? 2025
Honorable Mention: A Secret Cord by A. Jordan DeWitt
Description: “A Secret Chord, a zine module for Mothership. It’s a three act descent into the grisly catacombs of Exeter-II, where the Company’s Ultra Collider Dark Matter Research Station has opened a hole to the realm of the Black Emperor, an entropic force that seeks to merge with our universe.”
What excites you most about this project? “It’s my first published piece! RV Games (Radio Free Hekate, Slasher) is publishing it! The web of relationships and especially gross creatures are going to be a blast to play with.”
Do you have an anticipated release window? “We’re shooting for ZineQuest on KS in February!”
Ennie Nomination
I am beyond excited to announce that yesterday we were nominated for an Ennie Award for The Bloom.
Josh and I worked really hard on this adventure and are extremely proud of how it turned out. A sandbox adventure of escalating tensions as a small town in the PNW creeps toward doom. It’s What if Twin Peaks had a The Last of Us season?

The Parthenogenesis of Hungry Hollow Backerkit Success!
We are so excited that this first crowd funding was such a success (this was the Liminal Horror's first crowdfunding experience for a physical product, but definitely wasn't Jarrett's first rodeo which helped a lot).
Hitting $22,295 is amazing and will help us bring such an amazing book to shelves.
So what is next?
Integrating Proof Edits: I completed integrating the proof edits yesterday.
Maps: Josh has four more maps to complete, which should be done this weekend.
Hyperlinking and bookmarking: I bookmarked and hyperlinked the entirety of the text (except for the last page as I had to run to see Maxxxine). All that is left after that is to do some invisible words to hyperlink over the maps.
Final proof pass: Jarrett will do a final look over to make sure everything is all good.
Then we send the files to the printer and get that ball rolling. I'm feeling really good that our internal timelines and goalposts are being hit consistently. The pdf is not far out from delivery either, and trust when I say you will want to see what’s inside this book.
Twisted Classics Jam
https://itch.io/jam/liminal-horror-twisted-classics-jam
We launched the Twisted Classics Jam to coincide with The Parthenogenesis of Hungry Hollow. I have been so excited by the sneak peaks I’ve seen from some of the upcoming entries (you can join along for the ride at our Liminal Horror Discord Server: https://discord.gg/ptHUNSVDrJ).

Adapting a Mystery: Advice for Writers and Facilitators
Some entries we have received so far:
Truck by Mynar Lenahan: https://mynarlenahan.itch.io/truck
Heart County, Texas is the smallest county in America for a reason.
It’s smack bang in the middle of the desert, vultures flying overhead. A scattering of sun-bleached buildings, mostly boarded-up, lingering near the state highway to catch the eye of tired motorists desperate for snacks and a bathroom break.
In short, nobody would live all the way out here if there wasn't something a little strange about them.
And somebody’s killing these people with a truck.
Elevator Game by M. Allen Hall: https://m-allen-hall.itch.io/elevator-game-lh
Missing Person: Blake Sharn. 6'2", electric-blue hair, last seen leaving his house on the way to a show at The Basement at the end of May. If you have any information, please contact Lacie 522-6344
Missing people. Strange encounters. Rumors. Whispers. That's just the cost of doing business at Elevator Game.
What’s Next?
We have a lot of plans here in the Liminal Horror camp. As for what’s next:
We are wrapping up Hungry Hollow (quite soon) then getting that printed and delivered.
We are working on a starter adventure/how-to that will be a digital offering.
We are also working on the Deluxe Edition manuscript (it’s around 66-75% done) getting that drafted and then on to dev edits from Jarrett. Zach is hard away at work drawing up the weird and wonderful world we’ve put to words (we’ve shared some, but there is oh so much more being made for that book).
We are cheerleading the Twisted Classics entries as those get closer to being submitted.
I’ve been brewing another jam to launch alongside the deluxe edition, this one much wider in scope and possibilities… Horrors of the Americas (spanning all of North America) as means of gathering stories, monsters, adventures wider spread than just our Haunted PNW.
And of course, Josh and I have 2-5 ideas for what’s next after the Deluxe Edition…
Continuing to build out resources, frameworks, and supports to help others create and publish Liminal Horror adventures.
